My Racing Story
Matthew is a 29 year old from Sevenoaks, Kent; or where he is found more regularly Brands Hatch!
Matthew has been around the motorsport paddock his entire life; his routes trace back to his father Martyn’s passion for grassroots motorsport. No matter the weather or distance Matthew was always in attendance to watch Martyn sprint and Hillclimb in the now well know Ellis Talbot Sunbeam Lotus.
Rolling on Matthew entered motorsport at 12 via arrive and drive-karting championships; his opening season saw him finish 3rd in the championship before taking the title the year after, with a record number of wins in one season! Between this time and his car debut in 2014 sprinting, Matthew competed in numerous karting events notably winning the British 24 at Teesside.
After learning his car craft in sprinting, eventually with multiple class wins in a variety of vehicles circuit racing began at the end of 2014 in Atom Cup, quite the baptism of fire!
Roll past the years Matthew competed in many series and makes; Atom Cup, Civic Cup, hot hatch, sports specials, tin tops, lotus cup… where ever he could afford a seat. Always making an impression with the season regulars taking fastest laps and many podiums along the way.
Coaching had become a large part of Matthews's life at this point; spending time all around the country and abroad at Spa Francorchamps and the Nurburgring, which he still does. Not only helping people into motorsport but gaining a huge amount of experience in a huge variety of vehicles. This ranges from regular clients in 991 GT3RS MR Porsches, regular forum work instructing all of those from the M3 cutters group, to Radicals and historic spec race cars such as TR8’s and everything you can imagine in between.
Come 2018 racing became a lot more regular and started to build in momentum; aboard the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus Matthew has collected handfuls of race wins, fastest laps, and a huge number of class victories via multiple series and championships which has really highlighted Matthew on the map in historic racing.
Quickly following was drives in the infamous TVR Tuscan Challenge cars; Matthew has become the man to beat in these securing Pole position in every outing aboard these cars, 2022 he will be looking to cement with more victories whilst sharing with both the cars owner/drivers.
More noticeably Matthew has been at the helm of a stunning Ford Sierra RS500 group a touring car, this opportunity he has been extremely grateful for; whilst seizing with both hands. These complicated cars haven’t been trouble-free motorsport, despite this, every outing Matthew has shown his pace and mechanical sympathy. Some masterful drives in the rain have cemented Matthew in the historic paddock as one to look out for up and coming. He has been rewarded with fastest laps, races lead and a 2nd place at Spa, although most would agree both the team and Matthew have deserved much more if not for mechanical gremlins in a development season for the car.
2022 presented the busiest calendar to date in all of the aforementioned cars; Matthew entered the world of Euro Nascar, with Swiss based team RacingFuels Motorsport. Strong outings and top 10 running in both Matthews and the teams first season in the sport really showed their intensions and abilities.
2023 promises much more on all accounts...
