GRAND SLAM AT BRANDS HATCH BRITANNIA

matthewellisracing

The perfect weekend; it is not often you score the infamous triple! Pole position, fastest lap and an outright race victory!

This is exactly what Matthew and father Martyn achieved at Brands Hatch for the Britannia celebration weekend with the classic sports car club once again in the Future Classic series.

Martyn started qualifying doing the pairs usual routine, Martyn starts beds the car in before pitting to have his tyre pressures sorted and doing some hot laps. Martyn did a career best of a 53.7 before handing over to Matthew who managed a 53:0. Both of whom's times was good enough to take Pole position overall.

Martyn was to take the start where he pulled an impressive 18 second lead at one point carving through the traffic!

The race entered a code 60 just after Martyn had passed pit entry, this meant a full lap at 60kmph. This was important as when Martyn did the mandatory switch the circuit had returned to green whilst stationary; second to forth all jumped Matthew who was now some 20 seconds behind the leader.

Matthew set off in pursuit, and within 13 minutes had caught all in front, passed them whether inside outside and taken the lead!

In the remaining 12 minutes of the race Matthew Pulled a 40 second lead and lapped all bar second and third place!

Fantastic achievement, so great to see it in person and to carry Matthew’s sunglasses in the pits, a small but very important role!! 😂🙌
